Methodology
A concise account of what the briefing selects, what its labels mean, and where editorial judgement enters the process.
Collection and retention
A separate collector checks the configured feeds every 15 minutes and saves article metadata for 35 days. Collection is broader than the briefing: an unselected article can remain available after it rolls out of a feed. Feeds and bridges can still omit posts or fail; this is not a complete copy of every publisher. Full article text is fetched for the shortlist. The source directory reports the latest published sweep snapshot.
Selection
The live briefing is rebuilt every 60 minutes from current and retained candidates. Candidate stories must have a usable web address, fall within the selected view’s news window (72 hours, 7 days or 30 days), and clear an editorial relevance threshold. The daily issue is intentionally selective rather than a complete index.
Event clustering
Reports about the same underlying event are grouped before ranking. Same-publisher duplicates and community mirrors do not inflate the reporting-outlet count. One representative story leads; useful alternate reports remain as coverage links.
Evidence
Every item keeps a raw evidence kind and displays its public label: Primary source, Independent reporting, Newsletter analysis, Research paper, or Community signal. Coverage separately counts distinct reporting outlets. Primary announcements, newsletters, research papers and community discussion do not count as independent reporting. A story can therefore show no independent reporting, one reporting outlet, or multiple reporting outlets while retaining all useful source credits.
Source balance
Source weights are a prior, not a guarantee of placement. The shortlist is stratified and capped so one prolific outlet, lab, or paper feed cannot crowd out the rest of the briefing.
Model role
A language model scores and edits a bounded slate: it does not browse freely, invent sources, or change source links. Deterministic checks enforce dates, clustering, diversity, safe links, and fallbacks when the model is unavailable.
Dates and times
Published, Updated, and Posted follow the timestamp
kind declared by the publisher or community source. Explicit instants are displayed in
Europe/Oslo time while the exact source ISO value remains in the page’s time
element. Date-only values never gain an invented clock, and a wall clock supplied without
a timezone is labelled as such rather than converted into a guessed instant.
Original publication dates
Refreshing or correcting this briefing does not reset a story’s original publication date. A publisher’s updated timestamp is labelled Updated when the source explicitly supplies it; an older story does not become new reporting just because this page was rebuilt.
Story images
Article thumbnails are fetched server-side, re-encoded as local WebP files without embedded metadata, and never hotlinked from publishers. When no safe local thumbnail is available, the card uses local category artwork instead.
Live briefing, Daily issues and rolling roundups
The homepage shows the current live ranking. The Daily keeps a permanent dated archive URL; the current day can be refined as new reporting arrives. Past editions retain their dated identity, with confirmed material corrections applied to that original issue. Weekly and monthly pages are rolling 7-day and 30-day rankings, refreshed in place and kept out of the Daily archive and digest feed.
The model-release tracker
Model releases is not a ranking and not a window. Each sweep reads the same candidate pool the briefing is selected from, decides which stories announce a named model rather than merely discussing one, and folds what it finds into a cumulative record holding one row per model: the earliest date any source reported it, the outlets that covered it, and whether the weights are open. A release no monitored source covered is a release the tracker does not know about, and rows derived from pattern matching alone - when no model was reachable to confirm them - say so on the page.
Corrections and contact
Report a correction with the issue date, headline, and source URL through the same contact channel by which you received this briefing. Confirmed material corrections are applied to the canonical dated issue. Source-inclusion requests are reviewed for relevance, feed reliability, and transparency; payment does not buy placement.
